First Few Weeks

Well to sum it up in two words if that is even possible...being a parent is challenging but the most rewarding thing there is here on earth. We are like most parents of newborn babies learning something new everyday, enjoying the little things more than we ever knew we could, and loving this little boy more everyday that passes. I am personally so thankful Jared is able to spend these first few weeks with us and helping Eli and I learn along the way. Grateful is the feeling we have for family and friends who have been beyond supportive of us and this new journey. Exhaustion at 3 in the afternoon and 3 in the morning never felt so overwhelming but you get up and you keep going :) Elijah is learning new things about the world everyday and even just today had another first...tummy time! He really didn't mind it as much as we assumed he would and he tollerated it for about 5-7min before letting us know it was time for something else :) He's got a set of lungs that's for sure and we knew when he arrived he'd be a singer someday!! So through the learning curve as parents and the learning curve of the "4th trimester" for baby Eli we are living each day as it comes and enjoying the moments that happen so quickly! Jared and I decided that instead of a traditional baby book we'd do our best to keep up these quick fact lists each week, month, and year that goes by. We already do this for each year on our anniversary so we thought it would be a great way to include Elijah's special moments in too! Here are the first three :)


5.9.12 Your Birthday!
Elijah Lee Meitler

o  You were born at Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan, KS (in delivery room 5)
o  You weighed 8lbs 3oz
o  You were 21 inches long
o  You were born at 12:48pm
o  Your Mommy and Daddy were SO excited to meet you!
o  You share your middle name with 4 other men in the family! Including your Daddy!
o  Mommy’s Dr. was Dr. Welch
o  Your Nurses were Jessi & Lindsey
o  Your Dr. was Dr. Knopp
o  Grandma Pam and Grandpa Ken were there to meet you
o  The Billboard #1 single was “Somebody that I used to know” by Gotye
o  It was 74 degrees outside and sunny
o  The Kurtz Family and Scott came to meet you
o  We skyped on the computer with Auntie Sarah (aka the floating head) in Georgia
o   The first day of the big XII track championship was that day

 1 week: Elijah Lee Meitler
o  You met your Aunt Kendra on Mother’s Day!
o  Auntie Sarah was here to meet you!
o  You had your first Dr’s apt with Dr. Knopp…
o  You weighed 7lbs 10oz
o  You were 21.5 inches long
o  Your head circumference was 35.5 cm
o  You scared mommy because you weren’t eating “every two hours” so we started waking you up to eat!
o  You peed on mommy 4 times and Daddy 1 time but you made daddy’s count…in the face J
o  We gave you your first bath!
(you hated it but loved the snuggles afterward)
o  You smiled and squeaked in your sleep
o  Mommy and Daddy learned to swaddle you tight…really tight and you LOVED it
o  Mommy and Daddy watched “The happiest baby on the block” and believed like never before!
o  Daddy became known as the baby whisperer. He could calm you down in 1 minute flat!
o  You learned to take your pacifier
o  We learned that WE LOVE YOU MORE EVERYDAY!
2 weeks: Elijah Lee Meitler
o  Dusty and Julie came to take your pictures!
o  We had a weight check with Dr. Knopp you gained and were back up to 8lbs 1 oz
o  Your Umbilical Cord is still attached (day 15)
o  You latched on both sides for the first time without help!! Mommy was SO proud!
o  You loved to hear mommy sing “Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light”
o  You met many of your future lady friends…Addison and Ainsley Harland, Jenni Stubenhofer, and Gracyn Schaefer
o  You averaged about 4-6 hours of awake time each day.
o  We ventured out to meet mommy and daddy’s work families…you hate your car seat but LOVE the car rides!
o  Daddy read you your first book “How do Dinosaurs play with their friends”
o  We got a “sleep sack” to swaddle you in and you love it!
o  We learned that WE LOVE YOU MORE EVERYDAY!!
